Latino Family Therapist in New Rochelle, Yonkers, and throughout New York
Your Bilingual Family Therapist
Hi, I’m Cindy, a bilingual family therapist proudly serving the Latino and Hispanic community in Westchester County, including Yonkers and surrounding communities.
As a Spanish-speaker whose own parents immigrated to the United States, I know firsthand how complex identity can feel for first-generation individuals.
I myself grew up navigating two languages, two cultures, and the questions that come with that. Which is why helping clients explore their identity is near and dear to my heart. I provide sessions in both English and Spanish so my clients feel comfortable speaking the language that comes more naturally to them.
Because family and community are such a central part of the Latino and Hispanic culture, my focus is on family therapy and couples therapy, including support for BIPOC couples and individuals navigating generational trauma.
I also work with teens and offer mental health support to youth through a New Rochelle-based church program called RELIG.
Am I The Right Therapist For You?
Clients often come to me experiencing issues that range from depression, anxiety, trauma, and relationship struggles. These struggles can also show up as:
Self-esteem issues
Difficulty setting and maintaining boundaries
Feeling overwhelmed by your close relationships or family members
Feeling angry towards the people around you
Struggling to “fit in” at home, school or at work
Questioning who you are “supposed to be”
Because many of the individuals and couples who come to therapy have busy work schedules, I offer virtual sessions in the evening and on weekends to make care more accessible.
Credentials & Expertise
I hold a Doctor in Psychology degree from Touro University Worldwide as well as a Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Mercy College. I'm currently working toward my SFBT (Solution-Focused Brief Therapy) certification.
Over the years, I’ve also had the privilege of:
Providing in-home mental health services to underserved families.
Supporting youth mental health counseling through RELIG, a New Rochelle-based church program.
Working closely with families, individuals, and couples
How I Approach Individual, Family, and Couples’ Therapy
My approach is collaborative.
Instead of focusing on what’s wrong, I highlight the unique strengths each client brings to the table. Together, we work on building skills and techniques to better navigate relationship and identity issues.
Humor, when appropriate, is a big part of how I work because I believe it helps connect people with their true essence.
I also believe in being open with my clients and sharing a bit of myself and my perspective during sessions. I’ve found that human connection really goes a long way in establishing a productive therapeutic relationship.
Outside Of The Therapy Room… I Like To Dance!
Besides therapy, I believe in moving my body as a self-care practice. I am a phenomenal ballroom dancer, if I may say so myself, and also have experience in boxing.
What’s interesting is that both disciplines are - in their own way- about learning to connect, communicate, and move through conflict. Dancing and boxing have taught me to think on my feet, flow with the moment, and respond creatively to what comes up. It’s a mindset I bring into my personal life and therapy practice too.
I also have a cat named Duchess who may occasionally poke her head around the screen during our virtual sessions.
