Family Therapy in Yonkers, NY

Life in the New York metropolitan area is fast-paced, vibrant, and full of energy. But the rapid pace often leaves little room to slow down, especially when you’re juggling the many responsibilities of family life. Your family has faced countless changes and challenges since children entered the picture, and those changes and challenges have continued to shift as your children have grown older. You may find your once-harmonious home is now filled with discord. Your strong-willed toddler has become a strong-willed teen, and the stakes are suddenly higher. Perhaps the honeymoon period has ended in your newly blended family, and emotions are running high for everyone. You may find yourself searching for tangible solutions and real hope.

Whatever challenges you may be facing, you deserve a space where your family’s unique experiences, concerns, and stressors are met with care and compassion. My goal is to provide a safe space for your family members to step away from the noise, communicate with intention, and begin to heal. As a bilingual therapist, I offer sessions in both English and Spanish so family members can communicate in the language they are most comfortable with. Together, we can create opportunities for improved communication, deeper understanding, and more authentic connection.

Who Is Family Therapy For?

As a therapist for family issues, I am often asked, "Who is family therapy for?"

Most people are familiar with the idea of individual therapy, but struggle to grasp the Family therapy dynamic. So let's break it down.

Family therapy is helpful in a variety of situations:

  • When you and one family member keep having the same argument

  • When communication has shut down with one or more members of your family

  • In cases of drug or alcohol abuse that put strain on the entire family system

  • When cultural and generational issues create constant friction

  • When parents and teens struggle to understand each other

  • If you want to build stronger and healthier family ties with the people closest to you.

How Does Therapy for Dysfunctional Families Work?

The phrase "dysfunctional family" is used a lot, and it's not wrong. But it is a pathologizing way to look at your family system.

The truth is, most families struggle.

Because of circumstances like work, financial stress, the demands of daily life, culture, or beliefs clashing.

And sure, you can call that a dysfunctional system, but the goal of family therapy isn't to fix what's broken. It's to understand what is causing the friction in order to open new doors to communication and conflict resolution. At least that's my approach.

As a family conflict therapist who holds a master's degree in Marriage and Family therapy, I apply a collaborative approach with all my clients.

This means our sessions are structured like a conversation, not a lecture.

Together, we'll look at your family's dynamic:

Sometimes the whole family is in the room together for a session.

Other times, I'll meet with just one person individually. But the overall goal is to help the family as a whole.

The approach you and your family need depends on what would help most at that point in the therapy process.

Bilingual Family Therapy for Latinos in Westchester County

I am a first-generation American, born to Mexican parents and raised in Westchester County, NY. Because my parents didn’t speak English when I was growing up, I became their official translator.

That early experience taught me how much inclusivity and accessibility matter, especially for families new to American culture and the English language. For this reason, I am happy to serve as a bilingual Latina family therapist.

My goal is to support Hispanic families as they work through conflict and communication challenges in the language that feels most natural to them.
